West Coast Longshore Union Extension
For over a year a potential West Coast long shore union extension has been talked about since the subject was brought up at the maritime conference at Long Beach on March of 2016. A contract extension agreement has finally been reached.
The West Coast long shore union at 29 ports in California, Oregon and Washington have come to a contract extension agreement. Their current contract was to expire on July 1, 2019; the newly approved contract will extend the contract expiration date to July 1, 2022.
The contract extension will raise pensions in the duration of 2019-2022, increase wages and maintain the current health benefits.
With the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach being the busiest ports in the United States, together totaling 5,259,703.65 inbound TEU’s for the current 2017 calendar year. This contract extension brings peace of mind to all.
