Updates on Possible West Coast Trade Disruption

On June 25,2014, CBP has released an interim procedures for possible west coast trade disrruption that could cause major delays and cargo vessel arriving at west coast ports.

Stated in the CSMS (Cargo Systems Message Service) 14-000370:

“CBP will continue its commitment to facilitate the movement of cargo caused by events out of CBP’s control. All port locations that could be impacted have developed business resumption plans to ensure rapid restoration of vessel operations and entry processing of freight.”

The labor contract of ILWU and PMA is about to expire on June 30,2014.  The talks are progressing but there is still uncertainty about the possible disruption. Some biggest retailers have created their contingency plan. Some are waiting with their fingers crossed. Flegenheimer will continue to monitor and keep you all posted.
