NMFS Update: Seafood Import Monitoring Program (SIMP) on Northern Red Snapper Declaration
The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) will prohibit the use of aggregated harvest reports for Northern Red Snapper (Lutjanus campechanus), regardless of vessel size when reporting the SIMP declaration via the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) Automated Commercial Environment (ACE).
This restriction will apply to HTS codes 0302895058 (Snapper, Lutjanidae) and 0303890067 (Other, Snapper, Lutjanidae spp.). Small Vessel Harvest (SVH) will not be permitted when the species code for SNR (Northern Red Snapper) or SNX (Snappers nei) is declared. Declaration for Wild-Capture Harvests (HCF) and Aquaculture (HBA) will be permitted for these two species codes.
According to the announcement, these changes will be implemented in the ACE production no earlier than January 20, 2024. CBP will send another update to confirm the production date.
Flegenheimer will continue to monitor and keep you posted.
